Hi, friends!! Everyone has been posting their versions of this tag and it made me finally realise that I need to do it also. Let’s jump right in!
I. Best Book You’ve Read so Far in 2020
I’ve had more five stars than I thought for this year, but the majority of those are from rereads, so there is that. However, when I first saw this question the two books my mind went to were Tell Me How You Really Feel by Aminah Mae Safi and The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth. Both of these books are sapphic and they both own part of my heart, they were so good.
II. Best Sequel You’ve Read so Far in 2020
I haven’t read a sequel in the strictest sense this year, excluding rereads, so for this one I am going to go with Chain of Gold by Cassandra Clare. I love the shadowhunter novels probably too much, but they have become one of my greatest coping mechanism and I do not hesitate to say that they are the reason I made it through the last year. That being said, Chain of Gold was so so good. I loved all of the characters so much and it was just so well written.
III. Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year
Okay, so this is a hard question because there are so many amazing looking books coming out in the remainder of the year, but Darius the Great Deserves Better by Abid Khorram is one of the ones I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on. Darius the Great is Not Okay means so so much to me, I can’t wait to continue that story.
IV. Biggest Disappointment
I haven’t been majorly disappointed by any books this year, so I guess the best answer for this question is Late to the Party by Kelly Quindlen. This book just wasn’t for me and kind of made me uncomfortable, but I think that it is a book that lots of others would enjoy? If that makes sense?
V. Biggest Surprise
I think that my biggest surprise of the year has to have been More Than Maybe by Erin Hahn. I am not much into like heterosexual YA romances anymore, but this one hit me really hard and I gave it five stars.
VI. Favorite New or New to You Author
Listen, I know that I am way behind on this one, but Alice Oseman. I read Radio Silence in four hours yesterday and completely and utterly fell in love with her writing and storytelling. I am going to read Heartstopper today and can only imagine I’ll fall more in love.
VII. Newest Fictional Crush
I barely get crushes in real life and I don’t really get them in books ever so…..I got nothing.
VIII. Newest Favorite Character
This question is making me panic because I can’t think of one, so we’ll just leave this blank. I’m sure I’ll tweet about someone at 2 am on my twitter and then you’ll know they’re one of my favorite characters.
IX. Book That Made You Cry
The Summer of Impossibilities by Rachael Allen made me bawl my eyes out due to the sexuality and religion subplot. Funny enough, last year my book for this question was for the same reason. One day I’ll maybe be strong enough to read books with this theme without crying, but that day is certainly not anytime soon.
X. Book That Made You Happy
For this one, I once again have to go with Tell Me How You Really Feel by Aminah Mae Safi. This book was just so much fun and the Gilmore Girl references were everything, it just made me so unbelievably happy.
XI. Favorite Book to Film Adaptation
I haven’t watched any book to movie adaptations this year that I hadn’t watched previously, I should get on that.
XII. Favorite Post You’ve Done this Year
I honestly haven’t posted much this year, but my post on Leah on the Offbeat is one of the longest posts I’ve ever written and I am pretty proud of it.
XIII. Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year
Ignore my driveway as a background, but Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo is so so beautiful. I have never seen a book that is so pretty under the dust jacket.
XIV. New Release You Haven’t Read But Want To
There are so many that could apply to this, but the new release that I am most desperate to read is The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar.
XV. Book You Need to Read by the End of the Year
Okay, so I think this is it for today! I am going to go try and read and cram in some more books before the end of the month. But what about you guys, what books do you want to fit in before the end of the year (or the month)? Let’s chat in the comments!
