Hi, friends!! Today I am going to set a TBR that I may actually stick to? There is a slight chance that could do that. Then again, I could just decide halfway through that I don’t want to then fumble to finish the challenges on the last day or two of the readathon. I tend to do that. However, that is not the goal, so let’s talk about the books I want to for this years SapphicAThon!!
If you didn’t know, SapphicAThon is a readathon dedicated to reading sapphic romances, you can find more information on their twitter page! This year there are seven readathon challenges, which is very fun because it means I can check things off lists and feel like I am doing something with my life even if I am very much so not doing that. Anywho, onto the TBR!
Reread a book: Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan
I read this book as an audio what feels like forever ago, but was probably only like mid last year. However, I remember exactly none of it, so I am going to need to reread it before I can finally read the sequel which I recently acquired. I think that the last time I listened to this book in like a twelve hour period and that is probably why I don’t remember it, so I should probably try to like. Actually space it out and make sure I take breaks and understand what is happening, but I am not always the best at that, so we shall see.
Read a graphic novel: Heavy Vinyl, Vol 2. by Carly Usdin
I read the first of these graphic novels for January’s Sapphic Saturday (the sapphic readathon I cohost) and loved it to pieces. This follows a girl band who is also like an undercover fight club? I honestly don’t really know, but the first volume ended on a cliffhanger so I can’t wait to see what happens in this one. Also, like, almost everyone of these main characters is gay? That is my dream world tbh.
Read a book with a trope you love: Style by Chelsea M. Cameron
I cannot name one specific trope that is present in this book because I haven’t read it yet, but I also feel like I don’t really have favorite tropes like everyone else? Maybe I do, but I cannot think of any right now. I do really enjoy the situation where people are thrown together for a project, and that is present in this as well as a bunch of other fun high school cliches. I love any cliche when it’s gay, so I can’t wait to read this one.
Read a book by an author of color: Girls of Storm and Shadow by Natasha Ngan
The amount of negative reviews for this one has me kind of worried, especially since I have seen lots of people who absolutely loved the first one not like this one as much or at all, but I am going to hope for the best. I have both the audiobook and hardback for this one and I don’t really know which one I would rather read, so if you’ve done either and really think that was the way to go, please let me know!
Read a book you got for free: When We Were Magic by Sarah Gailey
I got this book as a review copy from Netgalley and I still haven’t read it (I know, I know, please yell at me until I actually catch up on my Netgalley TBR). I am really looking forward to it because gay witches are great, but I saw someone say it is really gorey and I don’t handle gore the best in some mind sets so I have been kind of just waiting to see when I think it is a good idea to start this one. I don’t know if I’ll be in the right mindset next week because my brain is an unpredictable mess, but I am going to try it.
Read a book that has been on your TBR for a long time: Annie on My Mind by Nancy Garden
This book has been on my TBR since I started hestisently adding sapphic books to it when I was trying to figure out my sexuality. This book has been banned and burned and all of that fun stuff for being about two girls in love with each other and that is really all I know about it. I have almost started it three or four times, so maybe next week I will start it once again, but actually finish it this time. I’ll try, at least.
Free choice: Clap When You Land by Elizabeth Acevedo
I preordered this book and have kind of just been staring at it since it arrived, but I think I can hold out until next week to read it. Once again, I know basically nothing about this book. I know twitter was freaking out about it and that it is written in verse and that is about it. That said, it should be a fairly quick read and I can’t wait to find out more about it and to hopefully love it and never shut up about it.
Okay, so, that is my TBR for the SapphicAThon! It is a little ambitious, but I think I can do it. What about you, are you going to participate in this readathon? Have you read any of these books? Let’s chat in the comments! Also, a final note to conclude on (watch Derry Girls).
I’ll also be reading Clap When You Land for this round!
I hope Girls of Storm and Shadows works for you. I’m one of the people it didn’t work for even though I loved the first book, but I tend not to love most series/sequels in general.
And I’m curious about When We Were Magic, Sarah Gailey’s works are very hit-or-miss for me but this one looks really interesting…
Good luck with your TBR!

Your Derry Girls gifs made me laugh so hard π Good luck with your reading! I haven’t read Girls of Storm and Shadow yet (partly because of all the negative reviews π¬) but I hope it goes well for you!

I loved Girls of Paper and Fire but I’m quite scared of reading the sequel, exactly because of the negative reviews. But I’m hoping to check it out soon! Happy reading! π
