Hello, friends! As you may have known, I did The Reading Rush last week! I made a TBR post and talked a bunch about it on twitter, but guess what. I didn’t stick to my TBR. Like, at all. I read two of seven books from it. Two of seven. That is 28%, ie a very bad failure. Good thing is, I’m not getting graded on my ability to stick to my TBR. Also, I still completed all of the challenges and read some books I enjoyed! So, without further ado, onto my wrap up.
We are going to start with my stats. Below is my graph of how many pages I read each day. I intended to keep track of what pages of what books I read on each day to share with you guys but um, spoiler alert, I am a hot mess and that definitely didn’t happen (who is surprised? not me).
Here are the daily stats represented in that graph in case you are curious:
- Day one: 155 pages
- Day two: 438 pages
- Day three: 286 pages
- Day four: 187 pages
- Day five: 187 pages
- Day six: 349 pages
- Day seven: 551 pages
Here are all of the badges I earned just because I think they are super cool:
Now, finally, I will talk about the books I read this week.
Book I: Chasing Sunset by Missouri Vaun
Challenge Fulfilled: Purple on the cover
- Rating: ☆☆☆
- Quick thoughts: This was solidly okay. I didn’t love it, but it was cute enough and I enjoyed parts of it. I don’t know if it was just a this book thing or an adult romance isn’t for me thing, but it was just a lot for me. It also drug, like a lot, and I thought everyone was a tad overdramatic. Then again, that could just be me. I will have a full review for this up this weekend, so I will explain things better then (hopefully)
Book II: Moonstruck, Vol I by Grace Ellis
Challenge Fulfilled: Read in one place and non-human main character
- Rating: ☆☆☆
- Quick thoughts: This was a quick yet very confusing read. I literally read in less than a week ago and don’t remember anything other than how confused I was and how nothing yet everything was happening and not in a good way. I have seen some stellar reviews for it though, so it might just be a me thing.
Book III: Carmilla by Kim Turrisi
Challenge Fulfilled: Read and watch a book to movie adaptation
- Rating: ☆☆
- Quick thoughts: This was another quick read, but not necessarily a good one. This book was a bit of a mess and honestly, just go watch the webseries. It is free on Youtube and very good. The same cannot be said for this book. I think this story is just one better suited to its original medium.
Book IV: Redwood and Ponytail by K.A. Holt
Challenge Fulfilled: None? Read seven books?
- Rating: ☆☆☆☆
- Quick thoughts: This book was somewhat of a masterpiece and I enjoyed every minute of it. At one point I had to stop reading to go to work and I spent a good bit of my downtime there thinking about these characters and where the story was going next and how much I would rather be reading than working. Told in verse, this novel follows two middle school girls as they learn things about themselves and discover their true selves while developing feelings for each other. I feel like I cannot explain how brilliant this book is, there is a Greek chorus esque choir of other students who chime in from time to time and so many good supporting characters, I just loved it a whole lot. I recommend this book highly.
Book V: Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour
Challenge Fulfilled: Read a book you meant to read last year
- Rating: ☆☆☆☆
- Quick thoughts: This book was super cute! There is just something comforting about Nina LaCour and her books, I can’t explain it but I very much enjoy it. This one in particular is just a very cute, fluffy summer read and I would recommend it. I mean, its gay and its fluffy and summery, what more could you want?
Book VI: soft in the middle by Shelby Eileen
Challenge Fulfilled: Read an author’s first book
- Rating: ☆☆☆
- Quick thoughts: These poems are okay. Some of them are very good and had me going “oh shit” or “relatable” but others fell very, very flat. The majority fall into the last category. All in all, they were okay, and this was a very quick read and it is free on Kindle Unlimited so if any of that catches your interests, look no further.
Book VII: The Summer of Jordi Perez (and the Best Burger in Los Angeles)
Challenge Fulfilled: Read a book with over five words in the title
- Rating: ☆☆☆
- Quick thoughts: I really thought I would love this. I didn’t, and that makes me sad. It was a summer romance and it was gay so it seemed like just my thing, but I had too many issues with it for it to be truly enjoyable. The characters seemed very childish, as did the writing, and there were just some other things that I had issues with that I don’t know how to properly explain.
Book VIII: Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins
Challenge Fulfilled: Arin’s happiness
- Rating: ☆☆☆☆
- Quick thoughts: Hi, I loved this so much and I will most likely never stop talking about it. It was so cute and fluffy and wow, I loved it. I hope to have a full review up this weekend, but until then, just know that this is one of the cutest books I have ever read and its f/f so it comes very highly recommended.
Okay, so, that is about all that happened reading and rushing wise last week. But what about you guys, did you participate? If so, how did you do, what is was your favorite challenge? Have you read any of these books? Let’s chat in the comments!
