Spotify Sunday: My Writing Playlist!

Hello, friends!! Welcome to my newest series on my blog, Spotify Sundays! In this series I will share the playlists I have on repeat, match books to songs, and more! Today’s post in all about my writing playlist. I have been doing Camp Nanowrimo this week and in order to do that, I had to develop a playlist that fits my WIP (I mean, there was like, no other option). Not to be dramatic or anything, but I am in love with this playlist. I keep doing this thing where I play it all the time and not just when I am writing which is not great, but I am working on it.

So, without further ado, here is the playlist that I can’t stop listening to feat. my favorite lyrics from each song!

dodiehuman

She by Dodie

It wouldn’t be a playlist made by me without this song on it. No, but really, I can only think of one playlist of mine that this song isn’t on. I love love love this song, it is just so good.

“Am I allowed to look at her like that?
Could it be wrong
When she’s just so nice to look at?”

Not What I Meant by Dodie (feat. Lewis Watson)

There was a point when every song on this EP was on this playlist, but I have since developed a minor sense of self-restraint and taken some of them off. The lyrics below don’t fit my WIP like most of the others do, but they are still incredible and I wanted to share.

“And in the end, will I feel proud
That I grit my teeth, and followed the damn crowd?
Will I have grown a little empire
Or made a fucking mess?”

If I’m Being Honest by Dodie

I would love to say this is the last Dodie song, but there are two more after this. I may have a problem.

“Could you love this?
Did you plan to fall?
Well, if I’m being honest
Oh, I bet it’s not that at all”

guiltless

Guiltless by Dodie

This song in particular means a lot to this project because it is what I was listening to when I came up with this idea and the lyrics below almost perfectly describe one of my main characters, Hannah.

“Oh, but I’m not bitter, I’m just tired
No use getting angry at the way that you’re wired”

partytattoos

Party Tattoos by Dodie

Once again, this song doesn’t match my WIP the best, but I still love it and I like writing to it.

“Take a look at the clock only so long to go
Scrubbing smooth young skin saying I don’t know
Grab a bag, grab a bottle but leave the “what if?”
You’ll see it in the morning after your kicks”

Girls / Girls / Boys by Panic! At The Disco

Finally! A non-Dodie song! This one is more geared towards my other main character, Maddie.

“Girls love girls and boys
And never did I think that I
Would be caught in the way you got me
But girls love girls and boys
And love is not a choice”

Girls Like Girls by Hayley Kiyoko

I listened to this song long before I knew I was like, really gay, and I always thought it was weird that I was so in love with it but now I understand a little better.

“Saw your face, heard your name
Gotta get with you
Girls like girls like boys do, nothing new”

Jessie’s Girl by Mary Lambert

You know the iconic song, Jessie’s Girl? I’m sure you do. Well, this is just a gay cover of it and it is amazing.

“And I’m lookin’ in the mirror all the time
Wonderin’ what she don’t see in me
I’ve been funny, I’ve been cool with the lines
Ain’t that the way love’s supposed to be?”

Strangers by Halsey and Lauren Jauregui

I have loved this song for forever and I love writing to it even more.

“Said that we’re not lovers, we’re just strangers
With the same damn hunger
To be touched, to be loved, to feel anything at all”

Sappho by Frankie Cosmos

I found this song like two days ago and I love it a lot.

“From the street I see your window
And I look up in
And is that even your house
Is that Sappho you’re reading”

She Keeps Me Warm by Mary Lambert

This song makes me emo.

“She says I smell like safety and home
I named both of her eyes forever and please don’t go
I could be a morning sunrise all the time, all the time yeah
This could be good, this could be good”

Secrets by Mary Lambert

I found this off of a Brigid Kemmerer playlist and I find that amazing.

“I can’t think straight, I’m so gay
Sometimes I cry a whole day
I care a lot, use an analog clock
And never know when to stop”

citrine

Pretty Girl by Hayley Kiyoko

“I can see you’re real smart
World class piece of art
I can see you in the dark
All we have to do is start”

girlsgir

girls by girl in red

I want to know where this artist has been my entire life, but like, mainly the last couple months.

“They’re so pretty it hurts
I’m not talking ‘bout boys
I’m talking ‘bout girls
They’re so pretty with their button-up shirts”

honey.png

Honey by Kehlani

“I like my girls just like I like my honey; sweet
A little selfish
I like my women like I like my money; green
A little jealous”

expectations

Curious by Hayley Kiyoko

I heard this song for the first time a week or two ago and it immediately reminded me of this project.

“Calling me up, so late at night
Are we just friends?
You say you wanted me, but you’re sleeping with him
You think of me, I’m what you see
When you look at the sky”

Sleepover by Hayley Kiyoko

This reminds me of a certain scene in my WIP that I can’t wait to write.

“You wanna be friends forever?
I can think of something better
I’m just feeling low, feeling low
Sleeping here right next to me”

iwbyg

i wanna be your girlfriend by girl in red

I flipped out when I heard this song for the first time because one of my main character’s names is Hannah.

“Oh hannah
Tell me something nice
Like flowers and blue skies
Oh hannah”

asgsay

A Shitty Gay Song About You by Smoothboi Ezra

Okay, I heard this song and I am now like, in love with it.

“Watching my fish swim in my room
Fooling around I think of you
No rhyme or reason you’re just in my head
And I’m alone in my bed”

Okay, so, that is all of the songs on my writing playlist. If you wanted to listen to it, you can find it here. I am planning on doing a whole post about my work in progress soon, so if you have any questions about it, leave them below!! I would love to answer them!!
