Hi, friends! If you saw my last post, I announced a hiatus for an undetermined amount of time. Since then, I’ve told people I would probably end that hiatus the week of July 9th as the service and the 4th of July will be over (the 4th was a super big deal to my grandmother, she always had her car in the local parade for her office and it was kind of what she was known for. My family and her office have decided to put her car in the parade one last time as a memorial, so that day is going to be Hard on us) and I will be doing my best to try and force myself to try and adjust to life as it is now. However, tonight I just felt the urge to write a Top 5 Wednesday post and shockingly the writer’s block I experienced Sunday let me. I don’t know if this is a fluke or if I was just an overly emotional mess on Sunday or what, so I don’t want to say jk about the hiatus, especially since this weekend will be very long and hard with her service on Sunday. Basically, my life is a mess right now and I don’t know? Anyways, this has been 200 words about my personal life which is not what you came here for, so I will move onto the post now.
Top 5 Wednesdays come from a Goodreads group dedicated to creating prompts for bloggers/youtubers/other things maybe. The group is currently on hiatus for the summer, but the host encouraged people to look back upon older prompts. I had planned to just do the prompts from each past year for each month (like June 2019 would use June 2018 prompts), but I have decided that I am going to let myself chose my favorite of several prompts. Today’s prompt is from June 2018 and I will be talking about 5 books I want to read before the year is over!
I preordered this book and then promptly forgot about it? So Amazon was like “your preorder is available” and I was like my what? Anyways, I really want to read this book. I mean, it has two girls on the cover and it doesn’t hide the fact that it’s f/f in anyway, so it already has points for that. It is also supposed to be enemies to lovers. So, like, its gay? And enemies to lovers? Sign me up, please and thanks.
I ordered this book after Caitlin recommended it and the author responded about emails he’d gotten from people saying this book has changed their lives. It handles sexuality and religion (which by the way, I will take recommendations for any and all books that deal with that topic) very well based off of reviews. I don’t really know much about it other than that, but I get the feeling that I will enjoy this book more if I don’t know that much about it, you know? I don’t know what books are about half of the time and that tends to make them more special to me, so I want to go in that way with this book.
This one may be somehow cheating because I have an eARC of it so I am somewhat required to read and review it lol. However, even if I hadn’t gotten an ARC, I would have wanted to read it when it came out in September regardless. I am not Jewish, but this anthology peaked my interest a lot as I have done a lot of research into the religion before. I actually got about 27% into it before everything happened Sunday but I decided to put it down for the time being. I really enjoyed the first couple stories, like a lot, so once I am feeling a little more “me” and in a better headspace to read something I am required to review, I am sure to pick it up again.
I should probably read this one very soon given that I have it out from the library and it is due back soon, but also I have no immediate reading plans other than my attempt to reread Harry Potter (which if you were wondering, I read the first chapter of and have just stared at since without reading more). I found this book somehow, I think on twitter? I don’t really remember. However I found it, I added it to my goodreads TBR and had it on the back of my mine. Then I went to the library to volunteer and lo and behold, it was sitting on the shelf so I just had to get it. Hopefully I will actually read it now, but we’ll see. Ironically enough, I don’t know what this book is actually about either other than it’s gay. I guess I’ll find out when I read it.
This is another library book, though this one has a slightly later due date because I have a bad habit of grabbing a book every time I walk into a library. I should stop that, I have enough books to read and also theoretical TBR that I should stick to. Anyways, I am actually super excited about this book. First off, it’s gay and I love all of the gay books. Second off, it just sounds cool? It doesn’t have the best ratings, but the summary sounds somewhat sad but also like something I would enjoy. Hopefully I will get to this by the end of the year (ideally before it’s due date) but who knows at this point honestly.
Well, those are five books I want to read before the end of the year. Knowing myself, since I put them on a TBR-esque post it means I won’t read them, but I will attempt to not jinx myself like that. How about you guys, what books do you want to read before the year is over? Let’s chat in the comments!
